2009-2010 Provincial Advisory Committee on Francophone Affairs
MANDATE
To provide advice to the Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs on the development of strategies, priorities and programs which affect Ontario's Francophone community, and on the planning and delivery of government French-language services.
COMPOSITION OF THE COMMITTEE
The committee is comprised of individuals who have demonstrated their commitment to the preservation and promotion of the French language and culture. Regional and gender representation will be ensured, and cultural diversity of the francophone community will be reflected.
The committee has up to 12 members, including one chair, appointed by the Lieutenant Governor for a period of no more than three years. This term is renewable.
2009-2010 COMMITTEE MEMBERS
The committee members, appointed by an Order in Council are:
Eastern Region
- Mr. Guy Matte of Ottawa is Chair of the Provincial Advisory Committee on Francophone Affairs. He has worked in the education sector throughout his entire career, including for the Association des enseignantes et des enseignants franco-ontariens. Mr Matte is very involved in Ontario's Francophone community and has also worked at the international level. He is currently a member of the International Executive Office of the Francophone Union Committee on Education and Training.
- Ms. Linda Assad Butcher of Ottawa sits on the board of directors of the Champlain LHIN. She has been executive director of Consortium National de Formation en Santé for La Cité collégiale from 2002 to 2007 and has previously served as a member of the transition team for the creation of this community college where she also held positions as director of health sciences and community services.
- Ms. Mona Fortier of Ottawa currently works for La Cité collégiale as Director of regional development in the Recruitment and communications sector. She has worked in the public and private sector and in French-speaking communities across Canada for more than fifteen years. She has experience as a project director and political strategist and expertise in market research, strategic communication, training and group facilitation.
Central Region
- Ms. Karine Morin of Toronto has over 12 years experience in the development and management of projects for immigrants and ethno-cultural minorities in Toronto. Ms Morin was Program and HR manager for La Passerelle I.D.E, a non-profit organization serving francophone youth and newcomers in the Greater Toronto Area. She was previously coordinator of violence prevention programs for Oasis Centre des femmes, and has worked for Kids Help Phone and the Victim assistance program.
- Mr. Jean-Gilles Pelletier of Toronto is Director of Administration and Communications at the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada. From 1997 to 2008, he was the Executive Director of the Centre francophone de Toronto (CFT), the multi-disciplinary French language services centre of Toronto. Prior to working at the CFT, Mr. Pelletier worked in different capacities for the provincial government, at the Office of Francophone Affairs and the Ministry of Finance.
- Mr. Wesley Romulus of Oakville was Vice-President of Toronto's Coll&eagrave;ge Boréal from 2002 to 2006. Mr. Romulus was formerly the National Director of International Child Care Canada Inc. He has also worked with the federal department of Canadian Heritage, the Ontario Trillim Foundation and York University's Glendon College.
Northern Region
- Ms. Annette Blais-Laforge of Sudbury has been active in education all her life. After 36 years of teaching with the Conseil des écoles séparées catholiques de Sudbury, she is now a member of RTO/ERO (Retired Teachers of Ontario). She was involved with l'AEFO (Association des enseignantes et des enseignants franco-ontariens), and is still actively involved in the Sudbury community.
- Ms Ang&eagrave;le Brunelle is general director of L'Accueil francophone de Thunder Bay, an organization helping Francophones get medical and social services in their language. She has previously worked as community organizer with seniors. She is also very involved in her community with several other organizations in the field of education, health, social and youth services.
- Ms. Colombe Hinse of Virginiatown has been a city councillor and was the Northern Ontario representative on the Association française des municipalités de l'Ontario. She has worked in the fields of official languages, justice, training and health and as an arbitrator for the Association of Ontario Midwives.
Southern Region
- Mr. Marcel Castonguay, of St-Catharines, has worked for the promotion of French-language services within the OPS from 1986 to 2006. He has been a manager at the Ministry of Labour, and French-language services coordinator for the Ministry of Transportation, then for the Justice sector. M. Castonguay is presently General Manager at the Centre de santé communautaire Hamilton Niagara (French community health centre). (Term started in June 2008)
- Ms. Diane Dubois of St-Thomas is currently Associate Vice-President Academic for the Centre-South-West region at Coll&eagrave;ge Boréal. She has more than twenty years experience and involvement in the community at the regional and provincial level.
- Ms. Charmaine Kissmann of Welland is presently director of Institutional Research at Niagara College, responsible for providing vision and leadership in the planning, development and administration of College-wide research and evaluation services. Ms Kissmann has previously occupied several executive positions at Coll&eagrave;ge des Grands Lacs, She has also volunteered on the board of directors of her local daycare and on the school council of École Saint-Joseph in Port Colborne.
