The Desjardins Group announced that it will reinforce its "Desjardins Youth Focus" program by creating a working group that will examine the economic value of French in the development of youth initiatives in collaboration with key business stakeholders.
The Trillium Foundation announced that it will now take into account the strategy of the Government of Ontario when granting funds to projects submitted by young Francophones. Consequently, all youth projects supported by the Foundation should serve the youth population, be focused on their contribution, demonstrate their commitment or be led by them.
FESFO received the mandate to design a project to foster the contribution of young people in the development of Francophone content on the Internet. This project will broaden the audio, photo and video coverage of events that are of interest to young Francophones and in which they participate.
The FAFO, the Jaspar and ACFO Prescott-Russell begin the project "Heroes among Us". The project consists of assembling in one publication a collection of personal heroes, that is to say people in the community, young and old, who have influenced the francophone communities of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell. This initiative will narrow the gap between generations and create opportunities to meet and exchange in the community.
College Boréal and the Office of Francophone Affairs support the development of the Regroupement des jeunes gens d'affaire (RJGA). The government's contribution will enable a program of conferences, recruiting events and networking opportunities. A website will be created and an inventory of existing resources will be available to young aspiring entrepreneurs. Furthermore, the Regroupement des gens d'affaire is sponsoring the deployment activities of the RJGA.
The AFMO and the Office of Francophone Affairs launched a citizen participation project for young Francophones. The pilot project will allow students from four French high schools from northern and eastern Ontario to participate in municipal politics and share their views on issues of local interest. Participating municipalities are Russell, Casselman and Kapuskasing. The Conseil des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario (CEPEO), the Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l'Est ontarien (CSDCEO), the Conseil scolaire catholique de district des Grandes Rivières (CSCDGR) and the Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l'Ontario (CSDNE) are partners in this initiative.
The Ontario government created a new Youth Francophonie Award for Francophones and Francophiles under the age of 25. This award aims to reward the use of French among young people and their active participation in the development of their communities. The prize will be awarded every two years as part of the Ontario Francophonie Awards. The next ceremony will be held in March 2010.
