Mesdames et messieurs, ladies and gentlemen, bonjour.
Je suis très heureuse d'être parmi vous aujourd'hui.
I am delighted to have the opportunity to meet young people who have made the choice to learn French; our country's other official language.
Saviez-vous qu'en Ontario, il y a plus d'un demi-million de personnes qui ont le français comme langue maternelle?
Si on ajoute à ce nombre tous les francophiles, c'est-à-dire des personnes comme vous qui parlent le français comme langue seconde et qui s'intéressent à la culture française, on peut dire que notre province a aussi un visage francophone.
You are among the three hundred and twenty thousand Canadian students who are enrolled in French immersion programs.
And you should be proud of yourselves for having made the important decision to learn in French!
A recent study found that seventy-four percent of English-speaking Canadians think that it is important for their children to learn French.
Now that's the kind of good news I like to hear.

Many bilingual graduates enjoy high-profile careers in politics, journalism or business, in both official languages.
All sectors of the economy are looking for bilingual employees.
And that includes the government.
The Ontario Public Service is always looking for talented young people to help deliver modern public services to the population of Ontario.
I strongly believe that there is no better investment than to prepare our young people for rewarding careers and, most of all, to give them the tools they need to be able to work in French and in English.
When I was growing up, my father always encouraged us to learn English – because he never had the opportunity to do so, and wanted to make sure that his children had all of the tools they needed to pursue their dreams.
And I am proud to be perfectly bilingual today, as a result of his encouragement and support.
Le gouvernement de l'Ontario est fier de promouvoir le dynamisme de sa francophonie et l'avantage concurrentiel qu'elle lui procure.
Nous appelons ça la « capacité francophone » de l'Ontario, un plein potentiel qui ne demande qu'à être développé davantage.
Dans un contexte de mondialisation croissante, la capacité bilingue de la population ontarienne est un atout de taille qui garantit la compétitivité non seulement des entreprises mais aussi des services publics.
Ceci veut donc dire qu'en étant bilingues, vous avez accès à des possibilités de réussite encore plus grandes.
More than ever, our government, and our society as a whole, recognizes the key importance of education for a society's health, wealth and well-being.
I know that the challenge for you in the future will be to keep the French you are learning right now.
Once you're out of high school, there might be fewer opportunities for you to practice your French language skills.
It will be up to you to get out there and find out about the French-language cultural wealth that is available in our province.
Through TV, books, concerts, live theatre, festivals, and associations of all kinds, you can continue to practice and improve your French, right here in Ontario.
I encourage you to take advantage of the incredible richness that Canada's linguistic duality offers.
Et si vous désirez poursuivre vos études postsecondaires en français, sachez que c'est tout à fait possible!
Au cours des dernières années, notre gouvernement a investi plusieurs millions de dollars dans les collèges de langue française et les universités bilingues de l'Ontario, afin que ces établissements puissent offrir un plus grand choix de programmes et de cours aux vingt mille étudiants et étudiantes inscrits dans des programmes postsecondaires en français.
Plus près de vous, nous avons notamment investi dans la création d'un Centre d'excellence pour les études postsecondaires en français et bilingues sur le campus Glendon de l'Université York à Toronto.
Et je vous rappelle que le Collège Boréal a un centre de service à Hamilton, ainsi qu'un campus à Toronto.
En investissant dans l'éducation postsecondaire et dans le développement d'une génération de jeunes capables de vivre en français et en anglais, nous mettons « l'accent sur l'avenir », et c'est tout l'Ontario qui y gagne.
Je souhaite que cet avenir soit à la hauteur de vos ambitions et de vos rêves.
